How killer on drugs escaped French trial for anti-Semitic murder

 

Usually intoxication is seen as an extenuating factor in crimes such as murder. But in France, at this point, long term drug use can be used as a defence - Citing Article 122 of the Penal Code, the judges ruled that Kobili Traoré had been undergoing a "psychotic episode" at the time of the attack on his 65 year old neighbour and that his "discernment" had been "abolished". This is spite of a long history by the defendant of antisemitic behavior. He was to be held in custody but was not guilty:
